- Classifies notes as fit or unfit; unfit notes are destroyed under controlled procedures.
Withdrawal & Exchange
- Manages the withdrawal of old or recalled series and oversees exchange into current legal tender.
- Provides rules for accepting mutilated or damaged notes and conditions for redemption.
Counterfeit Mitigation
- Publishes guidance on security features and counterfeit detection.
- Coordinates with law-enforcement and supervised institutions on reporting and seizure of counterfeits.
Public Education
- Outreach on banknote security features and proper handling and storage of cash.
- Information materials for businesses, schools and financial institutions.
