The Bank of Somaliland is the central bank in Somaliland and was established in 1994, it serves as both a monetary authority as well as treasury for the Government of Somaliland. The central bank was provided for in the Bank of Somaliland Act of 1994 And immediately took over fixed assets of. It has a head office in Hargeisa, in additional to 11 branches across the country including in Hargeisa, Berbera, Borama, Lasanod, Erigavo, Zaila, Ainabo and Gabiley.
The mandate of the Bank of Somaliland is to ensure there is financial stability and provide oversight for financial institutions. The Bank has board of directors which supervise the activities of the Bank, three of the members are executive member of the board including the governor, the deputy governor and the director general.
